The Project comprises two separate parcels, the northern parcel at Cortown and the southern parcel at Moyagher Lower. The Project will connect to the electricity grid through an on-site substation located at the northern parcel. The two parcels will be connected via underground cable on public roads and private land.

Milltown Solar Farm received full planning permission from An Bord Pleanála in March 2022 (Meath County Council planning reference number 21/396 / An Bord Pleanála reference ABP-311460-21)
The project successfully secured a capacity contract in the RESS 4 auction in October 2024.
Milltown Solar Farm will consist of rows of solar panels mounted on a typical galvanised metal framework. The panels face in a southerly direction with the highest point of the top of the panels being less than 3.2m above ground level.

The solar panels will be set back from nearby residential dwellings to minimise visual impact. The position of the panels and set back distance has been carefully considered to allow the panels and proposed landscaping to blend into the existing landscape. A landscaping scheme will be implemented to screen the solar farm from neighbouring residences and roads, and to help embed it into the surrounding landscape.
Milltown Solar Farm will connect to the electricity grid through an on-site 110kV (kilovolts) substation located at the northern parcel.

The installation of the connecting circuit will consist of an underground cable of approximately 2.9km from where it exits the southern parcel onto the L80021 to where it enters the northern parcel along the L6835.
A detailed traffic management plan will be agreed with Meath County Council prior to construction and the project team will continue to keep the community informed as plans for the works progress.
Once constructed and operational the only traffic to occur will be for occasional maintenance visits. The impacts of such traffic will be negligible.
The Milltown Solar Farm project will have a Community Benefit Fund (CBF) which will distribute grants to organisations in the local area once the solar farm is operational.
While the solar fund for the Milltown Solar Farm project will not be operational until the project energises in 2027, we encourage the local community to start thinking about the kind of projects you think might be supported by the fund.
As we approach the energisation date, we will communicate updates via local media, through the local authorities and via this website.
